SO WHO THINKS A METAL BIT CONTROLS A HORSE? It took a 950kg out of control draft horse to show me this is not the case.
And you've all heard the scary stories of horses bolting in a bit and people not being able to stop them. I challenge you now to google a photo of a bolting horse, as you will MOSTLY only see riderless horses still running away as the rider has failed to stop them, fallen off and the horse still carries on, which just goes to show on how ineffective
bits actually are at controlling
THIS IS BECAUSE A BIT CANNOT AND WILL NOT STOP A HORSE WHO DOES NOT WANT TO BE STOPPED!
I've seen a host of people attempting to out-strength horses, and even seen bits being pulled straight through the horses mouth all to no avail, as horses just keep running through it as that is adrenalin for you.
Many years ago, in my days of motorcycling, I ran across the road with a snapped ankle with my foot pointing the wrong way on adrenalin, so I know us humans can do some outrageous things on a burst of adrenalin, so what do you think a 400, 500 or even a 600kg horse can do on adrenalin? They have a strength that you can never control, hence why there is so many accidents on horses.
So please dont ever believe a metal bit stops a horse or that you control that horse because you have a bit. You control him because he is nice enough to let you-FULLSTOP!
Hopefully this article will show you that a 5-6" metal bar does not stop a horse? So why ride with one then-as a bitless bridle is just as good without any pain for the horse.
So how do you stop a horse.....
BITTED OR BITLESS this is how you STOP-by teaching him/her on the ground on how to flex his neck to his ribcage, over and over again until he knows the exercise off by heart and will "give" his head and neck to you. This allows you to spiral him gradually to a stop, which is how to stop a runaway horse.
PLEASE DO NOT PULL HIS HEAD AROUND IMMEDIATELY AS THIS CAN CAUSE A POTENTIAL FATAL FALL THAT COULD BREAK HIS AND YOUR NECK!
MAKE SURE YOU PRACTICE THIS ENOUGH THAT EVEN WHEN ON ADRENALIN YOUR HORSE IS SO WELL SCHOOLED O THIS THAT HE YIELDS HIS NECK TO YOU , AS IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.
