EQUINE PRESSURE AND RELEASE TRAINING:

You may or may not have heard of this...as it has many different names....but the essence of it is the same regardless of the name....

You apply a gentle physical push (or sometimes a pull) to your horse to ask him to politely move away from pressure and the second s/he does you release your hand, or the rein tension, or the lead rope, or carrot stick or flag etc...

This is a list of why we use this as part of our training with all our rehabilitation horses and it works so well too....

1-To have a soft, light and well mannered riding horse as this is how you should use your reins, and the horse should respond at a light phase one as described on our link, and with practice s/he will

2-To be able to manoeuvre your horse around on the ground for picking out feet, saddling, washing etc.... as well as in the saddle

3-As part of any good horse persons ground work program and in order to carry out pre-ride checks for safety, as a sluggish horse with non pressure and release training is not a horse any of us would be getting on

4-To move your horses feet, as that makes you the kind and benevolent leader...as if you don't move him or her around s/he will start moving you around and having horses as leaders of us is very dangerous fate for all concerned.

Every horse should be able to do this, and every handler should know how to teach them this too...It's quick and easy to learn and where you progress with it is up to you...as it can be made to look very fancy..and teaches the horse he will get a reward in the form of the release if he chooses to comply

So please see our link on how to learn it for you and your horse...
