TEN STEPS ON HOW TO TURN AROUND A TROUBLED HORSE:
STEP 1; PROVIDE A LOW SUGAR DIET:
Just like kids can display negative behaviours from eating high sugar foods, horses can also get high from sugars too......and unless you are running a winning racehorse or other high energy equine competitor, there really is no place for sugar high behaviour in most domestic horses.
In fact most horse owner/handlers don't recognise that lush green cow-grass is full of fructans, which are sugars, and it's these that play a major factor in behavioural problems with our horses.
Add to this our high endophyte ryegrass that loads our NZ horses up on myco toxins that fuddle their brains and plays havoc with their bodies and you have the recipe for a very dangerous and unhappy horse.....as we often help here at our NATURAL HORSE REHAB CENTRE.

Therefore to correct this we advise to predominantly feed hay over grass to reduce sugars in your horse's diet, and restrict green grass intake along, with using an effective toxin binder daily to protect against the effects of grass toxins, along with a balanced mineral intake to provide all the necessary nutrients to your horse's diet, and then you will have a horse who is ready to communicate with you in order for them to take those all important steps for a recovery for any troubled horse.
